There is “a rare prospect for House-Senate action, perhaps by fall” on the retirement issue, said Capital Alpha analysts Charles Gabriel and Ian Katz in a note. Other analysts also have said a bipartisan measure could become law this year, even as Washington remains divided on other matters.

There is a 35% to 45% chance for actual action this year after the lack of progress previously, Capital Alpha’s Gabriel told MarketWatch. The current push has bipartisan support, the legislation doesn’t have any “show stoppers,” and both parties would like to take credit for making progress in this area, he said.
